Dance music is about where you’re from, where you are and where you’re going.
That’s especially true for Paul Walker AKA Dubai DJ SL4. Named after his UK postcode as homage to his roots, he was brought up in a mixture of countries before settling near Liverpool. He quickly became involved in the legendary scene as the resident warm-up DJ and co-promoter of Aztec, helping bring iconic DJs like Robert Hood, Derrick Carter, James Zabiela, Guy Gerber and more to the city over an 8 year period.
Now based in the UAE for the last eight years, that success has been replicated in the Middle East where he's a DJ, promoter and avid scene supporter.
DJ-wise, he takes a modern, open-minded approach to dance music, happy to drop house, disco and techno tunes in his sets - think the widescreen approach of Dekmantel and Rush Hour Records and you're pretty close. Inspirations include classic house jockeys Sasha & Digweed, Liverpudlian champion Yousef, disco kingpin DJ Harvey as well as new school DJs like Hot Since 82 and Skream.
As well as dropping sets for Superheroes, techno night Dysfunktion and at Skydive Dubai, he was an integral part of Groove on the Grass, the leading one-day dance music festival in Dubai, while he also created and ran Elysium, the legendary after-hours party that ran after Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE. More recently, he's become part of the award-winning Analog Room night, helping push and promote the long-running underground night that's grown into one of the leading club nights in the Middle East. As part of that, he's heavily involved in the #supportyourlocals initiative, selflessly pushing and promoting local DJs, producers and dance music talent in the region.
Passionate, dedicated and with an ear for a killer tune, SL4 continues to move forward with dance music, pushing and promoting the best talent in the Middle East while also becoming one of the scene's go-to DJs.
